League leaders, Liverpool will be aiming to consolidate their winning streak and compound struggling Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s woes when they travel to Old Trafford for the 9th round of Premier League football on Sunday, October 20.
The Merseyside outfit has taken an early lead in the league, leaving other teams to play catch up after establishing an 8-point gap on its closest rival, Manchester City, with just eight games played. Liverpool will equal Manchester City’s record of 18 successive league wins if they win at Old Trafford, but the Reds will be aware of their record of not winning at their longtime rival’s ground since 2014.
In contrast, Manchester United have struggled to find a rhythm since the new football season started despite recording an emphatic 4-0 victory over Chelsea in the opening game of the season, picking up only six points in the last seven games. The Red Devils will dread facing league leaders Liverpool while missing their talismanic goalkeeper, David Degea, who has been confirmed doubtful for the game by embattled coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In the other matches to be played at the weekend, Manchester City will hope to close the gap on Liverpool as they travel to high flying Crystal Palace on Saturday, while Chelsea will attempt to take a spot in the top four as they host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
Third-placed Arsenal are not in action until Monday when they travel to Sheffield United to complete the 9th round of games.
