SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can enoy the continued return of live sport across the globe, with rugby, golf, motor sport, cricket and WWE all featuring from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 July 2020.
Wednesday 8 July sees the first return of international cricket since lockdown, with Day 1 of the First Test between England and the West Indies from the Rose Bowl in Southampton (10:30am LIVE on SuperSport 2). Days 2 through 5 will start at the time, same channel from Thursday 9 through to Sunday 12 July.
England will have Ben Stokes as Test captain for the first time, with regular skipper Joe Root away to attend the birth of his second child. “In terms of how I want to influence the game, I try to have a positive effect with the ball or bat in my hand,” said all-rounder Stokes. “No matter what I do in terms of choosing what to do in a situation, it will always be the positive route.”
Thursday 9 July offers night owls the chance to see Episode 571 of WWE NXT (1am LIVE on SuperSport 1, SuperSport 4, SuperSport 9 and WWE Channel 128), as the next generation of Superstars look to make their mark on the sports entertainment industry, while later the same day golf fans will be delighted to take in the start of the PGA Tour’s Workday Charity Open at Muirfield Village Golf Club (8pm LIVE on SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 5). Days 1 and 2 will have coverage begin at 21:00, while Days 3 and 4 begin at 19:00 – all on the same channels.
Friday 10 July features the first Super Rugby action for the weekend, with Australia’s Rebels hosting the Reds (10am LIVE on SuperSport 1) as the first of four matches spread over three days. There will also be Crusaders v Blues (Saturday 8am LIVE on SuperSport 1), Waratahs v Western Force (Saturday 10:10am LIVE on SuperSport 1) and Hurricanes v Highlanders (Sunday, 4:30am LIVE on SuperSport 1)
Saturday 11 July offers up Episode 1090 of WWE Smackdown (1am LIVE on SuperSport 1, SuperSport 4, SuperSport 9 and WWE Channel 128) where The New Day will be defending their belts against current rivals Cesaro and Sheamus. We will also see Women’s Tag Team Champions Bayley and Sasha Banks taking on Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss in a non-title match, as well as Braun Strowman taking on Bray Wyatt as a warm-up for their ‘Wyatt Swamp Match’ at Extreme Rules later in the month.
The all important Qualifying for Formula 1’s Styrian Grand Prix in Austria takes place on Saturday afternoon (1:30pm LIVE on SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 6), while there is further motor racing action for ‘petrol heads’ to enjoy later the same evening, with IndyCar’s REV Group GP at Road America Race 1 (10pm LIVE on SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 6) and NASCAR Cup Series’ Quaker State 400 Presented by Walmart (Sunday 12:30am LIVE on SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 6).
Sunday 12 July features a fighting feast in the early hours, with UFC 251 prelims and main card (1am and 3am LIVE on SuperSport 11). The event will be the first on UFC’s brand new ‘Fight Island’ facility in Abu Dhabi and is headlined by a match for the welterweight championship between Nigerian-American Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal.
Formula 1’s Styrian Grand Prix is the headline event for the afternoon (2:05pm LIVE on SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 6) and there is further motor racing action with Race 2 from IndyCar’s REV Group GP at Road America (5:30pm LIVE on SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 6).
