The Senate has confirmed Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His confirmation followed a screening session before the upper legislative chamber on Thursday, during which he responded to questions from senators on national issues. Udeh, who currently serves as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, was ushered into the chamber at 12:15 p.m. by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on National Assembly (Senate) Matters.
President Tinubu had earlier, in a letter read during plenary on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, requested the screening and confirmation of Udeh in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The president expressed confidence that the Senate would expedite the confirmation process.
Udeh’s nomination comes in the wake of the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who previously represented Enugu State in the Federal Executive Council. Nnaji resigned last month following controversies surrounding his academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials.
After deliberation, the Senate Committee of the Whole approved the nomination, confirming Dr. Udeh as Minister of the Federal Republic.
