The Super Eagles of Nigeria have refused to train ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs over unpaid bonuses.
The national team are currently camping in Morocco ahead of their tie with Gabon later this week.
The owed bonuses are said to be for both the qualifying campaigns of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and that of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to a statement released by the players, the team is demanding a quick resolution before they can continue with their preparations for the 2026 playoffs.
“The full squad including officials boycotted training today in Morocco because of the unresolved issues with outstanding payments,” reads the statement.
“The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue the preparation for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”
Recall that Nigeria secured second spot in the qualifiers behind South Africa, and were lucky to have finished as one of the best four runners up.
They will take on the Panthers of Gabon in the semi-final of the playoffs in Rabat on Thursday, and a win would see them play in the final against Cameroon or DR Congo on Monday.
The Nigerian camp has 23 players already present at their Rive Hotel camp, but have refused to train ahead of the encounter.
