As the Super Eagles prepare to face Gabon in a 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff today (Thursday), the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau has expressed his optimism.

The Super Eagles failed to secure automatic qualification to the mundial, but have another opportunity with the African playoffs.

The team is billed to face Gabon today by 5:00p.m Nigeria time at a Rabat Stadium in Morocco, and should they win, they would have Cameroon or DR Congo to face next week.

Gusau stated that the Super Eagles have the quality to win the mini-tournament.

“We believe in the players and their ability to make Nigeria proud, not only on Thursday, but throughout these playoffs. We have a team capable of earning a World Cup ticket,” Gusau told thenff.com.

The Super Eagles will still need to play an international playoff in March after they successfully win the African playoffs.
