Kanu sentenced to life in prison

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment.

The judge had earlier convicted the IPOB leader on terrorism charges.

The judge, in his ruling. said he ought to sentenced Kanu to death but he opted to show him mercy.

He, therefore, sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment on counts 1,4, 5 and 6 instead of the death penalty prescribed by law.

Justice Omotosho also sentenced Kanu to 20 years imprisonment without fine on count three and five years on count 7.
