The former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has described calls for the sack of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, as mischievous, unnecessary and politically motivated.

Following the escalating insecurity in Nigeria and the resignation of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, many Nigerians had taken to social media platforms to demand the sacking of Matawalle along with Badaru.

But despite the outrage that followed, Sani believes that those calling on President Bola Tinubu to sack Matawalle are just being mischievous as he has done very well.

In a post he shared on his X account on Wednesday, Sani said instead of calling for the removal of Matawalle, he deserves commendation and encouragement, pointing out the minister’s efforts in securing the release of the abducted Kebbi State schoolgirls.

“The call for the sacking of the Minister of State for Defence Matawalle, is undoubtedly politically motivated, mischievous and unnecessary,” he wrote.

“With Christopher Musa taking charge of the Defence Ministry, I’m confident that he will steer the Ministry in the right direction.

“He commendably delivered on securing the release of the Kebbi Girls students along with others, and should be appreciated and encouraged.

“The leadership of the Military and other security services are still directly responsible for battle against these criminal bandits and terrorists,” he added.
