The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reminded Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that a tenure determination suit involving reinstated local government chairmen and councillors is still pending before the Federal High Court.
In a statement issued Monday by its state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC accused the state government and the PDP of attempting to mislead the public following recent legal developments on local government administration.
The party alleged that after the PDP-led administration lost its bid to stop the reinstatement of APC council officials, the government began spreading misinformation. It noted that Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025, which seeks judicial clarification on the tenure of the reinstated officials, last came up in November and was adjourned until February 2026.
According to the APC, the suit also aims to determine whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has the authority to conduct another local government election while the reinstated officials’ tenure is ongoing.
The party further accused the PDP government of misleading residents by describing an exercise held on 22 February 2025 as local government elections, insisting that citizens now recognise the difference between a legitimate poll and an “illegal declaration.”
It also faulted comments attributed to state officials, including Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, describing them as deliberate attempts to incite the public and distort the legal realities of the crisis.
The APC warned that such actions could undermine peace in the state, stressing that the pending suit seeks confirmation that the reinstated chairmen and councillors are entitled to a three-year tenure, having held their first sitting in February 2025.
The party urged security agencies and the public to remain vigilant against possible breaches of peace, citing alleged threats by PDP members to resort to force. It referenced an incident at Otan-Aiyegbaju in Boluwaduro Local Government Area following the recent Supreme Court judgment as an example of rising tensions.
While appealing to parents and guardians to caution their children against political violence, the APC urged its members and supporters to remain peaceful as the legal process unfolds.
