Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has unveiled documents claiming that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde received N50 billion from the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The funds were reportedly a special intervention allocation following the January 2024 explosion in Ibadan.
Fayose presented a memo from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation as proof that Makindereceived the substantial fund.
The release came after Makinde reportedly challenged Fayose to provide evidence of the alleged federal allocation.
According to Fayose, only N4.5 billion of the N50 billion was actually disbursed to the victims of the Ibadan explosion.
He accused Governor Makinde of diverting the remaining funds, claiming that the money was instead used to advance his political ambitions.
Meanwhile, only N4.5bn was released to victims of the Ibadan Explosion. Rather, he diverted this fund and many others to his Presidential ambition, which is the reason for the crisis in the PDP and his attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government,” Fayose partly said.
The former governor linked the alleged fund diversion to tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He suggested that Makinde’s attacks on President Tinubu and his administration are connected to this financial controversy.
Fayose openly challenged Governor Makinde to take legal action against him.
“I dare Governor Seyi Makinde to sue me on this,” he said, adding that he possesses proof of other federal intervention funds received by Oyo State, which the governor has allegedly refused to disclose to the public.
“There are also proofs of other intervention funds from Tinubu’s administration that the Oyo State Government received but did not make public,” Fayose stated.
