BREAKING: NNPCL reduces petrol price by N20, orders all outlets to comply

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL has reduced the pump price of petrol at several of its retail outlets across the Federal Capital Territory.

Checks on Monday morning showed that motorists now buy petrol at N815 per litre at many NNPCL stations in Abuja, down from N835.

The latest adjustment represents a N20 reduction and has already taken effect at outlets in different parts of the city.

NNPCL filling stations in Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and on the Kubwa Expressway are selling at the new rate.

Fuel attendants at the stations said the price change was introduced quietly on Sunday evening.

They confirmed that the directive came directly from management and sales were immediately adjusted.

Despite the reduction, NNPCL’s price remains higher than rates offered by some private marketers.

At MRS filling stations supplied by the Dangote Refinery, petrol is currently selling for N739 per litre.

This leaves a price difference of N79 per litre between NNPCL outlets and some privately owned stations.

Industry observers say the frequent price changes point to growing competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil market.

Operators are adjusting prices in response to supply shifts and pressure from locally refined petroleum products.

NNPCL had earlier reduced petrol prices by N80 on December 19, 2025.

That decision followed Dangote Refinery’s move to slash its gantry price to N699 per litre, forcing marketers to revise pump prices nationwide.

The latest reduction suggests the price battle in the petrol market is ongoing, as consumers continue to watch for further relief at the pumps.
