Embattled Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt from a recent trip abroad amid fresh impeachment proceedings initiated against him last Thursday by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Though the purpose of the trip was not made public, inside sources say Fubara flew out of the country on a private jet on Thursday with the plan of meeting President Bola Tinubu in France, while the impeachment saga in his state was gathering momentum.

Upon his arrival on Sunday, the governor was seen along with his deputy attending a church service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The service was the first public appearance of Gov. Fubara and his deputy since the fresh impeachment proceedings were initiated against him.

The recent impeachment plot is the third attempt by the lawmakers to remove the governor from office in less than three years on the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him by the House of Assembly.
