Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday, described 2026 as a decisive year leading into the 2027 general elections, urging residents to remain vigilant and cautious of politicians making unrealistic promises.
Speaking at the annual Interfaith Prayer Session to mark the New Year, Makinde stressed the importance of security and accountability. “2026 is pivotal because it precedes the 2027 elections. I want us to be vigilant on the issue of security. We have only spent 12 days this year, and we have lost some people already at Old Oyo National Park. Security is everybody’s responsibility, and I urge you to say something to the authority when you see something,” he said.
He also hinted that a member of his team could succeed him in 2027, saying residents should expect continuity in development. “Following the performance of this administration, I believe someone from our team will take over to steer the state to greater progress,” he said.
