The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the recall of certain batches of Mivacron and Nimbex injections due to safety concerns.
In a post on its official X handle on Monday, the agency said the affected products were manufactured by Aspen Pharmacare Asia Limited and flagged by the Hong Kong Department of Health.
According to NAFDAC, one batch of Mivacron Injection 0.2% and five batches of Nimbex Injection 2mg/mL are involved in the recall. “The recall was made as a precautionary measure due to potential quality issues identified by the manufacturer,” the agency explained.
Investigations revealed deficiencies in the company’s manual inspection process, meaning some glass particles in the ampoules may not have been detected, prompting a voluntary market withdrawal.
The injections, which contain mivacurium and cisatracurium, are prescription medicines used alongside general anaesthesia.
NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and the public to report suspected substandard medicines to its offices nationwide or via its e-reporting platforms.
