Lassa fever: Nigerian govt confirms 17 dead in eight states

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Thursday at least 17 people died from Lassa fever in eight states across the country in the first three weeks of this year.

The agency disclosed this in its weekly epidemiological report for week three released in Abuja.

It added that the fatalities were reported in Bauchi, Taraba, Plateau, Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Benue and Nasarawa,

The NSCDC said the country recorded 93 confirmed cases from the states.

According to the agency, the country’s Case Fatality Rate (CFR) currently stands at 18.1 percent, slightly lower than the 18.2 percent recorded during the same period in 2025.

It noted that four health workers were infected in week three, highlighting ongoing occupational risks amid the outbreak.
