Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P of the defunct Psquare group, has stepped back from activism to focus on his personal life and family amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic and security challenges.
The music star made this known on Monday, while responding to a fan who questioned his silence regarding the country’s worsening situation, including rising inflation, soaring fuel prices, and growing insecurity on social media.
In his response, Okoye explained that he had already played his part by speaking out on national issues over the years.
The singer recalled participating in the #EndSARS protests in 2020 and openly campaigning for Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general election.
According to him, those efforts were part of his advocacy for change in the country.
However, the singer said he has now chosen to redirect his focus toward his own well-being and that of his family.
“I’ve already played my part from the last election to the #EndSARS movement. At this point, I’m choosing to focus on my life and my family. Everyone has their own role to play,” he wrote.
