A former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Henry Seriake Dickson, has said growing frustration among citizens over the state of the nation is fuelling a strong desire for political change as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Dickson made the remarks on Monday in Abuja during the unveiling of the digital membership registration portal of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, describing the platform as a crucial step toward expanding the party’s reach and strengthening its organisational framework across the country.
The unveiling ceremony was led by the party’s national leader alongside the National Chairman, Cleopas Moses; the National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu; as well as several state chairmen, party officials and stakeholders.
Speaking on the nation’s political atmosphere, Dickson said many citizens were increasingly disenchanted with the current situation and were looking for credible alternatives in the political space.
He said, “Nigerians are angry with the status quo. Nigerians are not only angry, they are also hungry, and they are hungry for change. The NDC is available as the tool for effecting the change Nigerians want.”
The senator described the party as a new political platform free from internal conflicts and committed to ideological politics and national development.
Drawing from a biblical narrative, the former governor compared the emergence of the party to the story of Noah’s Ark, encouraging Nigerians who seek genuine political transformation to identify with the movement.
“The NDC in Nigeria of today, politically, is like Noah’s family. Those who can see the signs should come on board early,” he urged.
Dickson also highlighted the significance of the newly introduced digital membership system, noting that it would modernise the party’s operations and enable broader participation among Nigerians both within the country and in the diaspora.
He added that although the party is only a few weeks old, it has already begun attracting attention and support from different parts of the country.
According to him, the party has been structured as a nationwide democratic movement with experienced political figures coordinating activities at the state, local government and ward levels.
“We are a national party. We are a pan-Nigerian democratic movement. We are not a regional movement,” Dickson said.
Also speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the party, Moses Cleopas, explained that the digital membership portal would simplify the process of joining the party and encourage wider participation among Nigerians.
He noted that the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to adopting digital tools that promote transparency, accountability and inclusiveness while strengthening its grassroots presence across the country.
The launch of the portal comes about a week after Dickson formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing persistent internal crises and what he described as poor leadership within the opposition party.
The Bayelsa senator made the announcement during a world press conference held at his residence in Abuja, where he lamented the decline of the once-dominant political party.
Addressing journalists at the time, he expressed concern over what he described as the deteriorating state of the party, noting that the PDP, which once inspired hope and enthusiasm among his supporters, had become seriously weakened.
