The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing renewed internal turmoil following allegations by a party pressure group suggesting possible disloyalty among some of its top figures.
The Positive Force Movement of Osun APC has raised concerns over what it described as alleged covert alignments involving the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, and former deputy governor, Iyiola Omisore. The group claimed that these alleged developments point to growing cracks within the party ahead of the next governorship election and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene.
In a statement issued by its secretary, Hakeem Oyelade on Sunday, the group said speculation surrounding Basiru’s alleged support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Accord Party candidate had heightened mistrust within party ranks. “There have been widespread allegations that the National Secretary is not fully aligned with the APC’s candidate and may be working behind the scenes to favour the incumbent,” Oyelade said. “The body language of the Secretary and particularly the support he gets from the Accord media shows there is more than meet the eyes.”
The group further pointed to circulating claims of a possible long-term political calculation involving the National Secretary. “There have been rumours that the National Secretary wants the incumbent to retain his seat while power can return to the Central Senatorial District in 2030, where he believes he will be the anointed and get a ‘pay back’ by the Adeleke group,” Oyelade alleged.
It also cited recent social and political interactions as reinforcing its suspicions, particularly referencing the wedding ceremony of Omisore’s son. According to the group, “the wedding ceremony lent credence to the now smooth relationship between Otunba Omisore and the Adeleke family,” noting that prominent members of the Adeleke political circle and some defected PDP lawmakers were in attendance.
The statement went further to allege that a meeting may have taken place involving key actors across political lines. “We also gathered that there was meeting between the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore and Akinleye, the Chief of Staff to Adeleke,” Oyelade claimed, describing the reported engagement as troubling for party unity.
Calling for urgent action, the group appealed directly to the President to address the growing concerns within the party. “We urge Mr President to call on the National Secretary of our party to address the issue of his 2030 ambition once and for all,” the statement added.
Although the allegations remain unproven, they have intensified internal unease within the Osun APC, raising fresh questions about cohesion and loyalty as political activities ahead of future elections begin to gather pace.
