Union Bank of Nigeria has been recognised for its leadership in gender inclusion, winning the Most Outstanding Bank in Gender Inclusion award at the 2026 Women in Marketing and Communications Conference and Awards (WIMCA).
The award was presented at the WIMCA 2026 ceremony held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The recognition, according to the organisers, underscores the bank’s commitment to promoting gender diversity and inclusion through initiatives designed to empower women, female entrepreneurs and professionals.
The bank’s gender inclusion strategy encompasses tailored financial products, capacity-building programmes, mentorship, networking opportunities and initiatives aimed at expanding women’s participation in the economy.
Themed “Grow, Give, Glow: Building Resilience for Distinction,” WIMCA 2026 brought together leading female marketing and communications professionals from across Africa to deliberate on industry trends, leadership, resilience and the advancement of women within the brand, marketing and communications ecosystem.
The event, organised by Nigerian brand and marketing magazine Brand Communicator, has over the years provided a platform for recognising outstanding female professionals and promoting greater participation and leadership by women in the industry.
Among the speakers at this year’s conference was Union Bank’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Mrs. Olufunmilola Aluko, who was also recognised among the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Marketing and Communications.
Reacting to the recognition, Aluko said the award affirmed the bank’s sustained commitment to gender inclusion as a catalyst for institutional excellence, innovation and sustainable growth.
She said, “Union Bank’s recognition at WIMCA 2026 is a strong validation of our sustained commitment to advancing gender inclusion as a driver of institutional excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth.
“We are proud to champion platforms and initiatives that empower women to lead with confidence, build meaningful careers, and contribute significantly to the evolution of the marketing and communications industry.
“This honour further strengthens our resolve to create greater opportunities for women across our workplace, customer base, and wider society.”
Since its inception, WIMCA has established itself as a platform for celebrating female leadership and promoting women’s participation in the brand, marketing and communications industry.
Union Bank said it would continue to support platforms and initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and meaningful participation across the marketing and communications landscape.
The bank also reiterated its commitment to fostering inclusive growth, expanding opportunities for women and supporting initiatives that contribute to the development of the wider brand, marketing and communications industry.
