British singer and rapper Khyra Wilson, popularly known as Kwn, has spoken up on her heritage and ancestry, revealing that prior to popular belief, she is not Jamaican but part Nigerian.
The artist, while speaking on an episode of the Culture podcast, explained that her music is heavily influenced by Jamaican and Caribbean culture because of the environment in which she grew up.
She noted that people make assumptions over her heritage because of her sound, stressing that she was culturally influenced by the Caribbeans.
Kwn also noted that although she has never been to Nigeria, she is certain to receive a warm welcome whenever she choose to visit
“I am half-Nigerian. Everyone thinks I am Jamaican but I am not. I grew up around Caribbean culture so people assume I am from the Caribbean. People find it difficult if I tell them I am Nigerian. Nobody has ever guessed that I am Nigerian until recently when someone guessed it. Everyone thinks I am Caribbean. But I have never been to Nigeria before. I know they are going to love me when I go over there,” she said.
