South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has officially resigned.
Mr. Zuma stepped down on Wednesday while addressing the nation on live TV ahead of a decision in Parliament on Thursday on whether to hold a motion of no confidence against him.

Zuma delivered a statement at the government’s Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday saying he would resign ‘with immediate effect’

The ruling African National Congress party (ANC) had instructed Zuma to resign, saying its lawmakers will vote to sack him via a no-confidence vote in parliament scheduled for Thursday if he did not resign.
