Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged eligible voters in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State to turn out in large numbers for Saturday’s bye-elections, stressing the need for peaceful participation and support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The bye-elections are being conducted to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly for Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana Constituency II.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday, the governor described the exercise as a family-oriented contest and appealed to residents to rally behind the APC candidates vying for the legislative positions.
Fubara’s message was conveyed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to journalists.
The governor further appealed for calm and strict adherence to the law before, during and after the polls, particularly in the affected constituencies.
According to him, “Everybody should be law-abiding and avoid doing anything that will disturb the peace during the exercise.”
He added, “It is actually a family election, and there is no need for rancour and acrimony.”
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement within Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm on Saturday to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process.
