Former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on Monday held a private meeting, fueling ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Details of the closed-door engagement emerged through posts by the ADC Vanguard, the mobilisation arm of the African Democratic Congress coalition, which shared videos and images from the meeting on its X handle.
The group described the interaction as strategic, noting that it centered on efforts to unify opposition forces ahead of the polls.
“Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi are having high-level discussions about presenting one presidential candidate for the opposition parties,” it said.
Obi attended the meeting alongside a delegation that included Igbo elders, senators of the ADC from the South-East, and several political allies.
The engagement comes amid Obi’s ongoing consultations across the country, as conversations intensify around a possible presidential alliance with former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, with both figures playing prominent roles within the ADC.
The meeting also follows closely on the heels of a major opposition summit held in Ibadan, where key political actors gathered to deliberate on the future of opposition politics.
The event, hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, drew influential figures including Atiku Abubakar, Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
