The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing him of constantly switching parties in pursuit of political advantage.
Reacting to Obi’s exit, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, in a statement posted on X on Sunday, described the former Anambra State governor as a habitual defector unwilling to commit to building any political platform.
“Peter Obi, a political rolling stone that gathers no moss… roaming again in search of free, uncontested, unchallenged presidential ticket… never willing to remain to build any party,” he wrote.
Morka further alleged that Obi prefers a political path that avoids internal competition, suggesting he seeks elevation without contest.
“He fantasises to be president on a ticket delivered only on a platter of gold… APGA – PDP – LP – ADC on to NDC,” Morka added.
The APC spokesman did not hold back in his criticism, ultimately branding Obi a “political drifter.”
“Fare thee well, Nigeria’s inconsolable political drifter,” he said.
Obi had earlier confirmed his departure from the ADC, attributing the decision to ongoing internal crises and what he described as a toxic political climate that hampers meaningful engagement.
In his statement, he explained that the move followed careful reflection and was influenced by persistent divisions and disputes within the party, which he said had shifted focus away from addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He also clarified that his decision was not driven by personal disagreements with key party figures, including David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he continues to respect.
Obi reiterated that his political ambition is not driven by personal gain, maintaining that his primary concern remains the welfare of Nigerians and the need to build a more functional and equitable society.
Despite leaving the party, he expressed continued optimism about the country’s future, insisting that competent and compassionate leadership is still within reach and that a better Nigeria remains possible.
