Nollywood actresses Ruth Kadiri and Funke Akindele have paid emotional tributes to actor Alex Ekubo following reports of his death after an alleged prolonged battle with cancer.
Taking to Instagram, Ruth Kadiri shared a heartfelt message alongside a video of the late actor, revealing that she had feared losing him for a long time. According to her, she regularly checked up on Ekubo before his passing.
“Such a HEAVY DAY. I made sure to check up on regularly… I feared for this day… yet it finally came,” she wrote. “Rest well Alexx… and God give your family the heart to bear the loss. Sleep well IKUKU.”
Her tribute sparked emotional reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom flooded the comment section with condolence messages and prayers for the actor’s family.
Funke Akindele also mourned the actor on her Instagram Story, sharing details of their final conversations and expressing regret that she never got to see him again before his death.
“I really tried to reach out to see you one more time but guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace Alex,” she wrote.
In another post, the actress disclosed that she kept sending him voice notes and messages while he repeatedly assured her he was fine.
“It’s so hard. Chai. Going through all the messages I sent. You kept telling me you are fine. I kept sending voice notes. Alex. Chai. God knows best,” Funke wrote. “I really wanted to see you!!! You said we will see soon. You ghosted me. Chai. REST WELL ORE MI.”
Reports of Ekubo’s death have continued to generate widespread reactions across social media, although official details surrounding the circumstances of his passing remain limited.
