The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after 56 days in captivity, following efforts by security agencies.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed the development in a post on his verified X account.
Sharing the update, Onanuga credited security operatives with securing the victims’ release.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” he wrote.
Although the release has been confirmed, authorities are yet to provide details on how the operation was carried out.
It remains unclear whether the victims were rescued through a security operation, released by their captors under negotiated terms, or if any ransom was paid before they regained their freedom.
Officials have also not disclosed the condition of the rescued pupils and teachers or whether any arrests were made in connection with the abduction.
The incident had sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for stronger security around schools and communities across the country.
