The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Mr Abayomi Hunye over his purported declaration as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, describing the claim as unauthorised and misleading.
APC, in a statement on Monday in Abuja by its National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, said Hunye is currently suspended from the party and therefore lacks the standing to present himself as its candidate or act on its behalf.
According to the party, Hunye was suspended on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State. The party said the suspension originated from the ward level, was subsequently ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area chapter and approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
The APC attributed the suspension to alleged activities considered injurious to the image of the party and conduct it described as anti-party, including actions allegedly capable of creating disaffection and division among its members.
The party consequently warned that Hunye is not a member in good standing and has no authority to represent the APC in any capacity.
The APC further clarified that Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan remains its duly nominated governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
The party said the nomination followed its governorship primary election and that the particulars of both candidates had been successfully submitted through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
According to the APC, official acknowledgement slips issued following the submission confirm the party’s nominated candidates for the Ogun governorship election scheduled for January 2027.
The party said the candidate profile of Senator Olamilekan was submitted on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 6:08 p.m., while that of his running mate, Balogun Kudirat Abiodun, was submitted at the same time.
The APC therefore cautioned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political or financial transactions with Hunye while he purports to act under the name of the party.
It said anyone who associates or transacts business with him on that basis does so at their own risk, adding that the party would not accept responsibility for any financial, legal or other consequences arising from such dealings.
The party also disclosed that it had directed its legal team to commence appropriate legal proceedings over what it described as the misrepresentation and impersonation.
It further said formal complaints would be made to relevant security agencies to address the matter.
The APC urged media organisations and members of the public to disregard publications, interviews or documents emanating from Hunye in which he claims to speak or act for the party.
It also appealed to its supporters in Ogun State to remain calm, law-abiding and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions, particularly as preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum.
The party urged stakeholders seeking clarification on its official position to contact the APC National Secretariat through the Office of the National Secretary.
The statement was accompanied by copies of the INEC acknowledgement slips for Senator Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun, as well as documents relating to Hunye’s suspension and its subsequent ratification by the Ogun State Working Committee.
The APC reiterated that Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun are the party’s recognised candidates for the Ogun State governorship election and urged the public to rely only on official communications from the party for information concerning its candidates and activities.
