The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria to rest and re-strategise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The vacation comes after what the party described as an exceptionally demanding and eventful first year of Yilwatda’s tenure, marked by extensive party engagements, consultations, travels and strategic activities.
A statement signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy, said the vacation would provide Yilwatda an opportunity to rest, recharge and reflect on the responsibilities ahead.
The statement said Yilwatda had, since assuming office, focused on building a stronger and more cohesive APC while working with the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, members of the National Assembly, state party structures, elected officials, stakeholders and party members across the country.
It said the APC, under his leadership, had organised and concluded its National Convention, strengthened its internal structures and conducted primary elections at various levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the achievements had further consolidated the APC’s position as Nigeria’s leading political party and one of Africa’s largest political organisations.
It said the vacation was not a disengagement from party affairs but an opportunity for the National Chairman to step back from the demands of his daily responsibilities, recharge and reflect on the next phase of the party’s development.
The statement said Yilwatda would also use the period to sharpen his strategic thinking ahead of the 2027 elections, which it described as a defining moment for the APC and the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It added that the APC chairman would use the respite to reflect on the party’s next phase and put finishing touches to plans for the forthcoming NWC retreat.
The retreat, according to the statement, is expected to provide an opportunity for the NWC to review the party’s progress, identify emerging challenges and agree on strategies for the months ahead.
It said the meeting would also seek to strengthen coordination within the NWC and improve the party’s preparedness for the 2027 electoral season.
The APC said Yilwatda’s decision to take the vacation was timely, given the sustained intensity of his activities since assuming leadership of the party.
It stressed that his absence from the country would not affect the operations of the APC, as the NWC would continue to discharge its responsibilities in line with the party’s constitution and established procedures.
The National Chairman is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements with renewed focus ahead of the 2027 elections.
