Comedian Lawrence Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, has publicly apologised to Nigerians following widespread backlash over his recent comments on insecurity in the country.
The controversy began after the comedian stated during a podcast appearance that Nigeria is safer now than it was ten years ago under previous administrations. In the interview, Seyi Law praised President Bola Tinubu’s government, asserting that significant progress had been made in addressing security challenges.
His remarks quickly sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians describing the statement as insensitive, particularly to victims of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes. Several social media users accused the comedian of downplaying the realities faced by citizens across different parts of the country.
Responding to the criticism, Seyi Law released a video on Thursday evening, February 26, 2026, retracting his earlier position and offering an apology to Nigerians who felt hurt by his comment.
In the video, he acknowledged the pain of families affected by insecurity and clarified that his statement was not intended to diminish their experiences. He expressed sympathy for victims and called for intensified government efforts to address the situation.
While maintaining his support for the current administration, the comedian urged President Tinubu and security agencies to strengthen strategies aimed at protecting lives and property. He stressed that security remains a critical issue that demands sustained and decisive action.
